A coated cutting tool which comprises a base and a coating layer formed on the surface of the base. The coating layer has an alternately laminated structure wherein two or three kinds of compound layers having different compositions are alternately laminated so that the total number of respective compound layers laminated therein is two or more. The alternately laminated structure is configured of compound layers containing a compound that has a composition represented by (TixM1-x)N (wherein M represents at least one element selected from the group consisting of Zr, Hf, V, Nb, Ta, Cr, Mo, W, Al and Si; and x represents the atomic ratio of Ti relative to the total of Ti and the element represented by M, while satisfying 0.57 ≤ x ≤ 0.91) and compound layers containing a compound that has a composition represented by (TiyM1-y)N (wherein M represents at least one element selected from the group consisting of Zr, Hf, V, Nb, Ta, Cr, Mo, W, Al and Si; and y represents the atomic ratio of Ti relative to the total of Ti and the element represented by M, while satisfying 0.61 ≤ y ≤ 0.95). The absolute value of the difference between the amount of a specific metal element relative to the total amount of all metal elements contained in a compound layer constituting the alternately laminated structure and the amount of the specific metal element relative to the total amount of all metal elements contained in another compound layer constituting the alternately laminated structure, said another layer being adjacent to the above-described compound layer, is more than 0 at% but less than 5 at%. The average thicknesses of respective compound layers are from 1 nm to 50 nm (inclusive). The average thickness of the alternately laminated structure is from 1.5 μm to 15.0 μm (inclusive). |
