The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition containing, as an active ingredient, a ChREBP expression or activity inhibitor, for preventing or treating diabetes. The pharmaceutical composition according to the present invention inhibits the expression or activity of ChREBP, which is a transcriptional factor of TXNIP, to inhibit the expression of TXNIP involved in the apoptosis of pancreatic beta cells, thereby having a beta cell protective effect, and thus the pharmaceutical composition can be favorably used in the prevention or treatment of diabetes.
