PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of using images smaller than conventional ones for correcting color shift and density.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes: image forming means for forming pattern images having one or more lines extending in a direction different from a direction of movement of the surface of an image carrier on the surface of the image carrier; light emitting means for irradiating the image carrier with light; light receiving means for receiving the light emitted from the light emitting means and reflected on the image carrier, and outputting detection signals according to the amount of received light; output means for outputting signals according to a difference between the values of the detection signals corresponding to the amount of received light including regular reflection light components from different positions on the surface of the image carrier; and calculation means for determining density information of the pattern images on the basis of the amplitude of the output signals output from the output means, and comparing the output signals output from the output means with a threshold to determine position information of the pattern images. |
