REACHABILITY DETECTION FOR PATH BETWEEN VXLAN TUNNEL END POINTS (VTEP)

In the present application, a first VTEP determines different UDP source port numbers for use in VXLAN encapsulation for a number N of detection packets to be transmitted to a second VTEP. This allows an intermediate device receiving VXLAN encapsulated detection packets to utilize the UDP source port numbers in a VXLAN encapsulation in selecting a forward path when two or more forward paths to the second VTEP are determined, where the number N of the detection packets is greater than the number M of all forward paths from the first VTEP to the second VTEP, and the first VTEP distributively transmits the number N of VXLAN encapsulated detection packets via out ports corresponding to all of the paths from the first VTEP to the second VTEP.
