There is provided a reactor for generating hydrogen from a solid hydrogen-generating material, the reactor comprising: a chamber defined between a first end member and a second end member the second end member being spaced from the first end member along a separation direction; an inlet for receiving a fluid; an outlet for releasing hydrogen; and at least one gas transport path defined between a peripheral part of the chamber and a central part of the chamber to induce a radial flow in the chamber, wherein a maximum separation between the first end member and the second end member is less than a largest dimension of the chamber perpendicular to said separation direction.
