A fuel injection control unit (engine controller 100) performs primary fuel injection (72) during a period extending from the later part of the compression stroke to the earlier part of the expansion stroke, and performs early-stage injection (71), with a lower fuel quantity than the primary injection, during a period extending from the intake stroke to the first half of the compression stroke. The fuel injection control unit determines whether the fuel injected in the early-stage injection produces a partial oxidation reaction in the second half of the compression stroke and performs intermediate injection (73) if it is determined that a partial oxidation reaction is produced. Intermediate injection is performed at such timing that the fuel injected by the intermediate injection produces spontaneous ignition after fuel injected by the primary injection spontaneously ignites and before the partial oxidation reaction occurs. |
