PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus whose productivity in image formation is high even when a waste toner image is generated.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus 1 calculates a first restart timing and a second restart timing when generation of a waste toner image is detected. The first restart timing is a timing in which next image formation can be restarted when waste processing of the waste toner image is operated by separating an intermediate transfer belt 30 from a secondary transfer roller 40. The second restart timing is a timing in which the next image formation can be restarted when the waste processing of the waste toner image is operated in press-contact with the intermediate transfer belt 30. When the first restart timing is determined to be later, the waste processing of the waste toner image is operated in press-contact with the intermediate transfer belt 30. On the other hand, the first restart timing is determined to be earlier, the waste processing of the waste toner image is operated in the separation state of the intermediate transfer belt 30. |
