An accessory 1 suitable for use in the conduct of patella reconstruction surgery comprises (i) an elongate datum limb 2 for abutment in use with the superior pole of a patella (preferably through the skin) and (ii) an elongate guide limb 4 for abutment by a side edge of a patella which extends transversely relative to the datum limb. The guide limb has guide holes 11 passing through it at selected positions to direct a drill or other surgical tool at an edge of the patella to enable holes or tunnels to be formed in the patella at required positions for the attachment or reception of reconstructive ligaments to the patella. One or more attachment limbs 5/6 enable the accessory to be secured in an operative position relative to a patella. The attachment limbs may comprise a lateral attachment limb 5, extending parallel to the guide limb, and a transverse limb 6 which is spaced from and extends parallel to the datum limb. These two limbs can be flexible and joined together by a releasable catch, buckle or other tightening mechanism 19. |
