461,728. Knitting-machines. HEMPHILL CO. May 22, 1936, No. 14540. Convention date, June 14, 1935. [Class 74 (ii)] In a multi-feed circular machine, a stopmotion device is provided for each yarn, comprising a yieldable yarn guide 36 movable to initiate stoppage of the machine and from which guide the yarn will not become disengaged upon such movement. A stop device operating upon failure of supply, comprises a fixed grid 21 and a pivoted grid 24 between which the yarn is guided. The grid 24 falls by gravity upon breakage &c. of the yarn so that a lug 26 thereon makes contact with a ring 27. The guide 36 is operated upon excessive tension and is provided at its end with an eye 40 through which the yarn is led. The guide is controlled by a spring 39 so that normally it supports a detent 55, Fig. 6, out of contact with a contact member 53. The provision of the detent 55 permits the guide 36 to be pulled down further after the stopping has been initiated to prevent breakage of the yarn. Separate electrical circuits are provided for 'each of the devices, and by means of a lamp and a switch controlling an audible warning device, the device initiating the stoppage is readily located.
