The apparatus (1) comprises a furnace (2) having a furnace chamber (21) for accommodating at least a first sample (31) and a second sample (32). The furnace (2) is capable of providing a predetermined temperature profile in the furnace chamber (21). The apparatus (1) further comprises a length measuring device (4) capable of detecting changes in length of the first sample (31) while the first sample is arranged in the furnace chamber (21) and a scale (5) capable of detecting changes in weight of the second sample (32) while the second sample is arranged in the furnace chamber (21).
