A method and apparatus for installing a seal cap (200). The seal cap (200) may be adhered to a fastener element (800) using a material. A portion of the material may be squeezed out as excess material (804) in response to adhering the seal cap (200) to the fastener element (800). A number of projections (202) associated with the seal cap (200) may be moved along an interface formed between the seal cap (200) and an object (802) in which the fastener element (800) has been installed. The excess material (804) may be faired using the number of projections (202) as the number of projections (202) is moved along the interface between the seal cap (200) and the object (802).
