The present invention provides a method of operating a communications network comprising plural routers (100A 100I) and a gateway (130) which manages the network by constructing routing models for the network on the basis of measured parameters including cost, resilience, energy consumption and geographical location. For each route, a plurality of bins are defined for each parameter, an average value for each parameter is determined so that it is assigned to one of the bins, a variance from the centre of the bin is determined for each parameter, a performance model is assigned to each route based on these calculations, and a request for a communication session via a certain route is accepted if it can be satisfied based on the determined model for that route. |
