The apparatus according to the invention serves to clean and disinfect articles, in particular medical instruments that can have mobile elements. Said apparatus comprises a trough (108) into which the contaminated articles (2) can be introduced. The apparatus is provided with devices each of which can contribute in one way or other to cleaning the articles. One of the devices is a source (6) of vibrations that comprises piezoelectric converters (7). Said converters are associated with the walls of the trough for vibration. The source can produce vibrations in the ultrasonic range.
