AEROGEL AND MANUFACTURING METHOD THEREOF

In the method for manufacturing an aerogel of the present invention, an acid is added to a first aqueous silicic acid solution that is alkaline and has a high molar ratio of silicic acid and that includes silica particles having an average particle size of 1 nm to 10 nm, to form a gel. The gel is subjected to dehydration and condensation to produce a hydrogel. The hydrogel is made into a hydrophobized gel, and the hydrophobized gel is dried. This method enables the preparation of an aerogel having a pore volume of 3.00 cc/g to 10 cc/g, an average pore size of 10 nm to 68 nm, and a specific surface area of 200 m2/g to 475 m2/g.
