Rotor 104a is air cooled by impellor blades 140 located on the opposite side of the rotor to the stator. Impellor cover 142 covers the impellor blades defining air channels between adjacent blades. The air channels have a radially inward inlet 14, and a radially air outlet 146 relative to the impellor blades such that as the rotor turns, the air is drawn through the air channel. A rotor enclosure 148 may be present, air ducting 150,152 may be used to guide air to the air inlet 144, and from the air outlet 146 to the outside of the enclosure. Heat from the second rotor 104b is transferred by conduction to the first rotor and additionally the coolant air from the outlets 146 may be directed to help cool the second rotor.. Alternatively both rotors may have impellors (fig 11 not shown). As shown in fig 13, the second rotor 404b may be directly supported by the first rotor 404a rotor so as to form a cup shape around the stator Cooling air may be circulated back to the inlet via a heat exchanger which may receive stator coolant fluid via a radiator (figs 15-17 not shown). |
