530,783. Anodizing aluminium and alloys thereof. McGLASSON, R., and BIRD, W. A. May 17, 1939, No. 14660. [Class 41] The surfaces of aluminium or aluminium alloys are cleaned, prior to producing a dyed anodizing coating, by polishing, greasing with tallow, applying a blast of pumice powder, iron powder or other fine abrasive, cleaning with trichlorethylene naphtha or benzol and then immersing for a short time in hydrofluoric, nitric or other acid solution. The surface is then submitted to an anodizing treatment, washed and immersed in a dye solution, or an anodizing bath containing acid and dye may be used. The surfaces are washed and sealed with a coating of lanoline, aluminium stearate &c. in benzol or petroleum spirit. The anodizing may be effected by the processes described in Specifications 223,994 or 223,995, [both in Class 41], or by the use of sulphuric and oxalic acids or of chromic and sulphuric acids. |
