PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video data storage system in which long-time storage of video data can be implemented and even when a storage device connected to a host unit is to transcode video data, the host unit is enabled to recognize and manage the video data.SOLUTION: A host unit 2 transmits to a storage device 10 video data of the MPEG-2 format to be compressed according to a first compression method and transmits an instruction for compressing the video data of the MPEG-2 format according to the H.264 format. In the storage device 10, the video data of the MPEG-2 format is converted into video data of the H,264 format by a transcoder 12 and the video data of the H.264 format is transmitted to the host unit 2. In the host unit 2, the video data of the H.264 format received from the storage device 10 is written in an HDD 13 of the storage device 10 and the written video data of the H.264 format is managed by a data management section 2132. |
