摘要 An optimal communication route through a subsea control system is determined, the system comprising a topside control system (TCS), routers and subsea electronic modules (SEMs). A request for communication between the TCS and a selected SEM is broadcast to adjacent routers, which include themselves as a valid hop in the information field of the request and then re-broadcast to further routers. The process is repeated until a plurality of re-broadcast requests corresponding to respective routes between the TCS and the selected SEM are received at the communication destination. An end-to-end quality metric is then determined for each received request based on the information field, and an optimal route having the highest metric is selected. A reply to the received request corresponding to the optimal route is sent, the reply containing a complete reverse path of the received request. The optimal route is then established as the in-use communication route.
