The bearings 14, 17 for the rotor 12 of a marine turbine 10 comprise slide surfaces 12, 16 made from ferrous materials, stainless materials, Titanium, Ti alloy, Cobalt, or Co alloy. The bearing material 14, 17 is made from a resin material filled with a first fibrous member and a second fibrous member with a smaller size. The first fibres may be carbon fibre, and the second fibres may be ceramic whisker e.g. Potassium Titanate, Aluminium Borate, Zinc Oxide or Silicon Carbide. Dimensions and composition ratios are disclosed. Some of the bearings may be exposed to, and optionally lubricated by, sea water (figure 5), in which case the slide surface is made from, or coated with, a corrosion resistant metal or alloy from the above list. |
