The method involves providing a regulating unit (3) for each generator, where each regulating unit includes a power amplifying transistor. A pulse width modulated control signal generated by one of the regulating units or a control signal derived from the modulated signal is fed to other regulating units for controlling the power amplifying transistors. The derived signal describes the duty cycle of the pulse width modulated signal. An independent claim is also included for a device for supplying a DC voltage to a load of an on-board supply system of a motor vehicle.
