A bed frame comprising a pair of side rails (46, 48) of a T-shaped cross section forming a vertical flange (50) having upper and lower edges and an outer surface facing outwardly of the bed frame and an inner surface, a horizontal flange (54) extending inwardly from said inner surface of each of said side rails (46, 48) about midway between the upper and lower edges of the vertical flange (50), a light producing means (49) affixed to the side rails and located along the inner surface of the vertical flange (50) and underneath the horizontal flange (54).
