According to various embodiments of the present invention, the electronic device may include a main body and a cover unit coupled to the main body to be detachable. The electronic device may include an output control module for controlling to output a first signal for determining the coupling state of the cover unit for the electronic device; a signal receiving module for receiving a second signal corresponding to the outputted first signal; and a coupling determining module for determining a coupling state of the cover unit for the electronic device based on the attribute of the received second signal.
