A method for producing a 2,2-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)hexafluoropropane-quaternary phosphonium salt according to the present invention is characterized in that 2,2-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)hexafluoropropane is reacted with an alkali metal hydroxide, an alkali metal alkoxide or an alkali metal carbonate in the presence of water to produce an alkali metal salt of the propane and the resultant alkali metal salt is reacted with a quaternary phosphonium salt. In the production method, water is used as a solvent, and therefore the 2,2-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)hexafluoropropane-quaternary phosphonium salt can be produced without putting a load on the treatment of a waste water. Further, impurities can be separated easily from the phosphonium salt merely by means of a filtration operation. Therefore, the production method is a superior method for producing the product on an industrial scale and with high efficiency. |
