PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a travel direction prediction device with a reduced risk of an erroneous prediction.SOLUTION: A travel direction prediction device 1 is connected to a map DB 14 which stores map information including intersections and a present position detection section 12 which detects a present position of a vehicle. The travel direction prediction device 1 comprises: an intersection transit information storing section 30 to store transit information, which is a history of previous transit at the intersections and based on number of times the vehicle travels in each divergent direction at each intersection, for respective approach directions to the intersections; an intersection specifying section 38 to calculate the approach direction of the vehicle on the basis of data on the present position of the vehicle obtained from the present position detection section 12 and to specify the intersection ahead of the travel direction of the vehicle on the basis of the map information stored in the map DB 14; a predicted travel direction calculation section 40 to obtain the transit information at the specified intersection from the intersection transit information storing section 30 and to calculate a first candidate as well as a second candidate of a predicted travel direction on the basis of the obtained transit information; and an output section 42 to output the data on the first candidate as well as the second candidate calculated by the predicted travel direction calculation section 40. |
