There is provided a recording apparatus that is provided with an ink tube and integrally includes a recording unit and a scanner unit while considering reduction of a height and maintenance of a recording function of the apparatus. A printer includes a recording unit and a scanner unit that is capable of opening and closing the upper portion of the recording unit. The recording unit includes an ink tube that guides the ink sent from an ink tank to the head unit and has flexibility, and a control section that performs recording on the medium by controlling the head unit when detecting a depressed state of a switch and does not perform the recording when detecting a non-depressed state of the switch, based on a state of the depressible switch that is provided in the upper portion of the recording unit. The switch is in the depressed state in a state where a gap which has a size that does not block at least an ink flow passage on the inside of the ink tube and through which the ink tube passes is formed between the recording unit and the scanner unit.
