The loudspeaker produces high directivity sound over a broad range of frequencies, including at low frequencies. The loudspeaker 100 includes a speaker drive unit 102 and an acoustic interference tube 104 having an open first end coupled to the speaker drive unit 102. The interference tube has a series of apertures, holes or perforations 106, and the centres of the apertures lie on a generally a straight line along the length of the tube. The size of the apertures increases with distance 110, 112 from the speaker drive unit. The interior of the tube 104 may be filled with material to reduce the speed/velocity of sound within the tube and to damp reflections of sound. The tube may be circular or ovoid. The speaker unit may have more than one acoustic output (fig 6) with at least one of the outputs coupled to a respective interference tube. |
