An aerofoil or wingtip is equipped with a duct 428 extending from an inlet 418 on its high pressure underside to an outlet 420 on its low pressure upper side. The air passing through the duct forms two opposing rotating flows, 1302, 1304, and inhibits the flow of air about the outboard edge of the wing. The inlet may include a contoured intake surface 448, and a fluid-arresting structure 440 on the outboard edge, which may be in the shape of a nose cone. The duct may also include a plenum, located before the fluid-arresting structure. The device may be formed to be attached to an aircraft wing. |
