The sensor has a horn antenna (201) for transmitting a transmission signal to a filling surface. Another horn antenna (202) receives a reception signal reflected by the filling surface. An outer shell formed as a housing (203) is provided for accommodating the antennas, where the shell has a round, elliptical or squared base area. The antennas have horns with semi-circular or semi-elliptical cross-section. The antennas are formed for front-aligned installation in a flange, where a front antenna covering of the sensor includes an inwardly directed cone-shaped curve.
