A target 170 for a marine geophysical survey system is located beneath a bottom 165 of a body of water 110. An energy source 120, perhaps seismic or electromagnetic, is actuated in the body of water, and energy is detected. A position of a survey spread 155, the spread maybe comprising a plurality of spaced-apart streamers 135 comprising geophysical sensors 125, is manipulated in response to a change in distribution of the target (e.g. depth below the bottom; depth, lateral position or width of a portion relative to another portion). A data processing system (500, Fig. 5) receives measurements of detected energy and determines the manipulation, maybe while detecting the energy or prior to data acquisition. The manipulation may comprise changes to a position of the energy source; changes to lateral position or spacing, depth, or fanning of at least one streamer; or relative positioning of two or more survey vessels 105. |
