580,115. Wave guides. CORK, E. C., and MANIFOLD, M. BOWMAN-. April 26, 1944, No. 21410. Divided out of Complete Specification of 580,090 [Class 40 (v)] Radiating or receiving apparatus comprises a hollow conductor 10, the cross-section of which has one dimension large relative to the other, one end 12 of the conductor being closed and the wave-exciting or pick-up wire 16 being situ. ated at the open end 11. The wire 16 extends in the direction of the smaller dimension of the hollow conductor, and is formed as the unenclosed extremity of the inner conductor 15 of a coaxial feeder 13. The hollow conductor's dimensions may be in the ratio 12 to 1, and the smaller dimension may be one-eighth of a wavelength or less. In order to attenuate currents on the rim or external surface of the conductor 10, a sheath 17 is provided enclosing the conductor and connected thereto at the rear end, its front end being open. The space within the conductor 10 may be filled with solid dielectric material. Specifications 580,090 and 580,114 are referred to. |
