587,890. Carbonizing processes; peat. PILO, C.-W. Feb. 17, 1944, Nos. 2991, 2992, 2993 and 2994. Convention dates, Dec. 22, 1942, Feb. 4, 1943, Feb. 16, 1943, and March 10, 1943. [Classes 50 and 55 (i)] Peat, wood &c. are subjected whilst descending a vertical shaft to a continuous heat treatment in the upper part with hot air or gases and in a lower part with steam the circuit of which includes a superheater. Air preheated by passage over a vapour condenser 8 together with flue gases from the superheater 5, is blown tangentially into an annular chamber 16 surrounding the shaft which it enters through downwardly directed openings 17. Evolved vapours are kept in circulation through the shaft and superheater by a fan 19, excess being led to the condenser 8. A cooling chamber 2 may be separated from the shaft by a shutter 14 which is removed at intervals to allow the material after compression by screens 13 to fall into the chamber. If the material is to be completely carbonized a separate circuit including a condenser for the gas-vapour mixture may be .provided and some of the material may be burnt by admitting a small amount of air. The coke may be crushed and conveyed out of contact with air to a briquette press.
|
