A method for controlling a heat supply unit 2, a domestic boiler, for supplying heat to a central heating system, during at least one heating demand period; the demand period is activated and deactivation by signals from a timer 6. During the first phase of the heating demand period, the heat supply unit 2 is periodically turned on and off, and is controlled by a control circuit in reference to a pre-programmed timing sequence; a central heating system temperature that maintains the water to a preset temperature; or a combination thereof where the timing sequence is overridden if the water temperature drops below a preset level. Preferably at least one period of time for which the heat supply unit is turned on is of differing duration to at least one other period of time for which the heat supply is turned on. The second phase of the heating demand period is controlled by a room thermostat. The turning on and off of the heat supply unit during the first phase of the heating demand period, provides a more efficient boiler. |
