491,733. Vehicle opening-tops. CHAPMAN, A. W. March 13, 1937, No. 7435. [Class 108 (i)] [Also in Groups XIV and X] To prevent rattle in the sliding members of sliding roofs, &c. a metallic strip 3, Fig. 1, is attached to one of the slide members, disposed transversely of the slides, and formed with a marginal part or parts 12, which by virtue of the resiliency of the strip or under the action of spring means, exerts pressure in lateral, vertical, or partly lateral and partly vertical direction against a marginal part or parts of the other slide member, forcing the co-operating parts of the slides into contact. The invention is particularly applicable to slide members of the kind described in Specifications 379,902 and 405,954, [both in Group XIV]. The ends 12, Fig. 1, of the strip 3 pass through slots 7 in the edges of the slide 1, and bear against the under sides of the flanges 13 so as to force the bends 10 of the upper slide downwardly into contact with the lower slide. In the form shown in Fig. 2, the edge 17 of the strip 18 bears against the inside of the angular flange 15 of the upper slide and forces the slide downwardly. Fig. 4 shows a form in which the end 29 of the strip 27 presses on the lower slide flange 34, and forces the parts 33, 33a on the slides laterally into contact. The strips may be spring-pressed as shown in Fig. 5.
