The invention defines the process in the determination of True Vertical Depth1, the measurement of a straight line perpendicularly downwards from a horizontal plane. The process requires descending a pressure and temperature sensor below ground level with tubing, such that the tubing can be filled with a fluid of measured or calculated density and rheological properties. As the pressure and temperature sensors are being descended below ground level with tubing, pressure and temperature measurements will be recorded such that the relative density of the fluid column within the tubing can be calculated or corrected. Once the temperature and pressure sensor reach the desired depth, final pressure and temperature measurements will be taken. Using hydrostatic equations, specifically Bernoulli's Equation2, the True Vertical Depth can be calculated. |
