[Class 75(iii)] To permit easy removal of a worn flint from a hand-operated pyrophoric lighter the block 9 carrying the flint and friction wheel and mounted on the fuel casing 5 is formed with a bore 11 for the flint 12, a bore 13 for the flint-pressing spring 14, a groove 15 extending between bores 11 and 13 to guide a plunger 16 pressing the flint 12 into contact with the friction wheel 7, there being a detachable top cover plate 17 having a slot 18 (through which the flint is inserted and removed) adjacent the bore 11 and a disc 20 being rotatably mounted on a pin 21 and actuating the plunger 16 by an eccentric pin 24 and link 23 to retract the plunger 16 out of contact with the flint 12, a side slot 10a permitting any required lateral movement of such link 23. As shown the link 23 is curved and its inside portion maintains the plunger 16 retracted when the pin 24 has passed a dead-centre position. The plunger 16 may have an arm extending horizontally at right angles to groove 15, this arm being connected to the disc 20 by a curved or notched link. |
