[Class 89 (i)] A self-locking bolt, stud, or other externally screw-threaded member is formed in its shank with one or more recesses filled with insets of hard vulcanized fibre or like elastic material, each inset having an arcuate outer side which is of such length that it subtends an angle of at least 90‹ at the axis of the bolt and which extends beyond the inner edge, but preferably not beyond the outer edge, of the screw-threads on the bolt. According to Figs. 1 and 2, the inset 3 extends completely round the shank 1 and is formed in two parts each having concave sides 5 whereby the inset is keyed into the shank, whilst according to Fig. 4, a one-piece inset 3<1> is sprung into position to extend partly around the shank 1.
