PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that maintains the amount of an image carrier protective agent to be supplied to all imaging units stably over a long period so as to maintain stable image quality.SOLUTION: There is provided an image forming apparatus including a plurality of imaging units 10 each having a photoreceptor 1, developing device 4, cleaning device 5, and protective layer forming device 2 supplying a protective agent 21 including at least a fatty acid metal salt (A) and inorganic lubricant, provided along a direction of movement of an intermediate transfer belt 61, where the protective layer forming devices 2 each have a foam roller 22; a developing device 4 arranged in the imaging unit 10Y located on the uppermost stream in the direction of rotation uses a toner containing a fatty acid metal salt (A'); and developing devices 4 arranged in other imaging units 10M, C, and K use a toner not containing the fatty acid metal salt (A').SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
