PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrical heating type catalyst converter showing a superior durability in which a crack or peeling is hardly generated at an insulation layer even if a large thermal stress is generated at the extremity end of an inner pipe and the insulation layer formed near the extremity end at an upstream side of the catalyst carrier.SOLUTION: This invention relates to an electrical heating type catalyst converter for purifying comprising a catalyst carrier for bearing catalyst to generate heat through electrical energization, a case storing the catalyst carrier and an electrical insulative mat present between the catalyst carrier and the case. The case is formed with an insulation layer having a thickness of 100 to 200 μm in a distance ranging from the extremity end of the inner pipe up to 10% and an insulation layer with a thickness of 100 to 400 μm in a distance ranging from the extremity end of the inner pipe over 10% up to 50%. A thickness of the insulation layer formed in a distance ranging the extremity end of the inner pipe up to 10% is thinner than a thickness of the insulation layer formed in a distance ranging from the extremity end of the inner pipe over 10% to 50%.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
