PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately estimate sheet characteristics.SOLUTION: Lapse time is counted from a point of time at which a rotation drive part rotatably driving at least one of a pair of conveyance rollers by feedback control starts driving and a sheet detection part provided at the downstream side in a conveyance direction of the pair of conveyance rollers and detecting a sheet conveyed by the pair of conveyance rollers detects the sheet. At a first timing at which the counted lapse time reaches a predetermined time, a timing signal that sheet characteristics of the sheet is to be estimated is output. If the rotation drive part starts deceleration before the lapse time reached the predetermined time, a timing signal is output at a second timing at which lapse time from the start of acceleration again of the rotation drive part reaches the predetermined time. According to the output timing signal, on the basis of a feedback signal acquired by the feedback control of the rotation drive part, the sheet characteristics are estimated.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 6
