Disclosed are a method for encoding/decoding an intra prediction mode, an apparatus for decoding an image, and an apparatus for encoding an image. According to the present invention, the method comprises: a step of inducing most probable modes (MPMs) from a surrounding prediction unit adjacent to a current prediction unit; and a step of inducing the intra prediction mode of the current prediction unit based on an MPM flag directing whether an MPM, having the same prediction mode as the intra prediction mode of the current prediction unit, exists in the induced MPMs. The present invention provides a method for encoding/decoding an image with enhanced image encoding/decoding efficiency.
