In a distributer for fuel distribution from a single fuel pump to the separate fuel injectors of a multi-cylinder internal-combustion engine, a distributer casing having an inlet adapted to receive fuel from a single injection pump and. having a plurality of outlets receives a distributer piston which. whilst being reciprocated in an axial direction is also oscillated about its axis in order to connect the inlet. successively to the outlets. A plunger 30 driven from the end of the cam shaft 16 operating the fuel pump executes a combined reciprocatory and oscillatory motion and serves to distribute the delivery of the fuel pump 18 from a passage 24 to the respective cylinders of a four-cylinder engine. As shown, Fig. 5, a crankpin 40 of the shaft 16 drives a yoke 42 which in turn co-operates with a fork 43 attached to the plunger 30. Figs. 6 to 11 show the passages in the plunger and its housing. The dotted line b in Fig. 7 shows the path of a point on the surface of the plunger. The fuel pump makes four delivery strokes per revolution. As shown the plunger 30 in addition to distributing the fuel acts as a pump which supplies fuel to the inlet of the fuel pump 18. Alternatively it may supply lubricant. It may supply fuel through a separate de-aerator or filter to the fuel pump. The casing 15 may be in two separate parts, one housing the fuel pump and one the distributer. It is stated that the sealing of the plunger is satisfactory and is influenced favourably by the tight fits which are permissible due to favourable lubrication afforded by the particular oscillatory movement of the plunger.</p> |
