PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal device and a projection display device in which display quality can be improved.SOLUTION: The liquid crystal device includes: a light-transmitting layer 44; a first lens layer 41 disposed on one surface of the light-transmitting layer 44 where light enters and having a first lens 41a having a convex curved surface protruding in a direction away from the light-transmitting layer 44; a second lens layer 42 disposed on the other surface of the light-transmitting layer 44 and having a second lens 42a having a convex curved surface protruding in a direction away from the light-transmitting layer 44; an element substrate 10 disposed via a liquid crystal layer 15 on an opposite side of the second lens layer 42 to the light-transmitting layer 44 and having a light-shielding film 21 that defines an opening of the pixel; and a third lens layer 43 disposed on the element substrate 10 and on an opposite side of the light-shielding film 21 to the liquid crystal layer 15, and having a third lens 43a having a convex curved surface protruding in a direction away from the light-shielding film 21.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2 |
