The present invention relates to a lithium air battery and to a manufacturing method thereof. The lithium air battery comprises: a cathode using oxygen as a cathode active material and including porous carbonaceous material; an anode arranged with a gap from the cathode; and an electrolyte interposed between the cathode and the anode, wherein a passivation layer is included on the surface of the porous carbonaceous material of the cathode. The lithium air battery can improve the cycle lifetime of the lithium air battery by preventing an increase in overvoltage at the late stage of charge and preventing the occurrence of various side reactions under the atmosphere of air.
