<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for driving an electrophoretic display device capable of performing high quality display. <P>SOLUTION: When display is changed from a first image to a second image, an electrophoretic display device includes: a first step of applying a first electric field to an electrophoretic material 24 for a first period; a second step of applying a second electric field of which the direction is opposite to that of the first electric field to the electrophoretic material 24 for a second period; and a third step of applying a third electric field of which the direction is the same as that of the second electric field to the electrophoretic material 24 for a third period.
