A process for resolution of a mixture of (R)-and (S)-enantiomers of 1-aminoindan comprising fractional crystallizing one diastereomeric acid addition salt of 1-aminoindan from a solution containing a pair of diastereomeric acid addition salts of 1-aminoindan, wherein the salt-forming acid is an optically pure chiral dicarboxylic acid selected from the group consisting of L(+)-aspartic acid, L(-)malic acid and (2R,3R)-tartaric acid, and wherein the solvent for obtaining said solution is methanol. |
