The present invention relates to a gas supply system (1) for a reciprocating-piston internal combustion engine, specifically a uniflow-scavenging large two-stroke diesel engine. The gas supply system (1) comprises a gas inlet valve (2) having a gas inlet nozzle (3). The gas inlet nozzle (3) is arranged on a cylinder wall (41) of a cylinder (4) of a reciprocating-piston internal combustion engine. Therefore, fuel gas (5) supplied as fuel can be supplied to a combustion space (42) of the cylinder (4) by the gas inlet nozzle (3) in a state where the gas supply system (1) is installed. According to the present invention, a monitoring system for determining a position of a valve body (6) is provided to monitor a flow of the fuel gas into the combustion space (42). In addition, the present invention relates to a reciprocating-piston internal combustion engine having the cylinder and the gas supply system (1) and an operating method thereof.
