PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: an image forming material which is excellent in optical properties such as luminance and contrast of an image transferred to a transfer object by laser thermal transfer and resolution ; and an image forming method.SOLUTION: There are provided; an image forming material which comprises a photothermal conversion layer and an image formation layer containing 20 pts.mass or more and 60 pts.mass or less of pigment particles having a number average particle diameter of 30 nm or more and 100 nm or less, 4 pts.mass or more and 40 pts.mass or less of at least one resin selected from an acrylic resin having a weight average molecular weight of 10000 or less and a rosin resin and 4 pts.mass or more and 40 pts.mass or less of a polymerizable compound having at least two ethylenic unsaturated double bonds, based on 100 pts.mass of the total solid components and is used in forming an image by using a laser beam; and an image forming method.SELECTED DRAWING: None
