A data processing system 1 supporting a secure domain and a non-secure domain comprises a hardware component 5, and a processor device 2 having operating modes in the secure domain and non-secure domain, the processor device executes a secure application 4 in the secure domain to protect the security of a hardware component 5. The hardware component 5 has a property 8 having a secure state, either permanently or rendered secure temporarily. The property of the hardware component 5 in the secure state may only be reconfigured responsive to instructions received from the secure domain. Devices and applications from the non-secure domain may send requests to the secure application 4 via an application programming interface 7 and responsive to the secure application 4 deeming the request to be appropriate, the secure application implements the necessary setting/changing of the secure property 8 of the hardware component 5, this way software applications and other hardware components are restricted from modifying the configuration of a hardware component. |
