[Class 100 (ii)] [Also in Group XVII] Tubular blanks of paper or similar material used for making containers are indented so as to form folding creases at the end which is to be folded to form the closure, by means of a die 36 and coacting plunger 35 suitable shaped to form the required creases. In one construction of apparatus for forming creases 38, 41, Fig. 15, in the larger end of a tapering tubular blank 42 whereby the end of the blank can be folded as shown to form the closure, the convex creases 38 are made by edges 29 between plane surfaces 37 on the members 35, 36, and the concave creases 41 by inwardly projecting ridges 39 on the die 36 coacting with grooves 40 in the plunger. All of the creases may be formed either by edges 29 or ridges and grooves 39, 40 suitably disposed on the members 35, 36 Well-defined edges 44 may be formed on the container where the closure part joins the main part by parts 44<1>, 44<11>, which stand out slightly from the curved periphery of the members 35, 36. In making containers each having a body part of rectangular or polygonal cross-section, the body part creases may be stamped at the same time as the closure creases. The plunger 35 may be used as a mandrel for forming the tubular blank. |
