The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for estimating a section load in a distribution line which can generate data synchronized with a proper level without additional visual synchronization equipment, and can quickly process section load estimation using the minimum data. To this end, the section load estimating apparatus for estimating a section load on each section of a distribution line divided by a plurality of switches, comprises: a collection unit for collecting load current values one each switch, and calculating average load current values for each period on each switch for every first predetermined period; and an estimation unit for setting, as a representative period, a peak period having the highest average load current value among average load current values for each period of a reference switch during a predetermined maximum load calculation period, and estimating a representative section load on each section of the distribution line based on the average load current values on each switch corresponding to the representative period.
